Robin Thicke and Paula Patton have called it quits!

The news will come as a shock to fans of the celebrity couple, especially considering some of the quotes they gave to the press in recent months. Thicke and Patton had been married for 9 years before news of their split became official. The cause of the break up appears to be the woman who Thicke "grabbed" last year at the VMAs, an incident which has sparked a variety of trust issues from wife, Paula.

Sources are reporting that the marriage has been on the rocks for months and the fact that the couple has not been photographed together recently shows that the writing was on the wall (we just weren't reading). The incident that sparked the demise of their marriage appears to be the infamous "butt-grabbing" incident that took place in August of last year. At the official VMA after party, Robin Thicke was photographed grabbing the butt of a young lady, Lana Scolaro; Thicke insisted at the time that he had nothing to hide, especially because his wife, Paula, was also at the party and saw it all happen.

However, the encounter clearly didn't go down too well behind the scenes, despite the couple's insistence that they were closer than ever. A few weeks after the incident, Thicke was quoted saying that he and Paula 'Cannot keep our hands off of each other' before announcing to the world that the music video for Blurred Lines was inspired by her ideas. Everything appeared to be rosy; but what else can you expect from a couple in the limelight?

Thicke has made no efforts to hide the attention he gets from other women, having been photographed in nightclubs in Paris with hot young girls; twerking on stage with Miley Cyrus and of course, writhing with half naked women in his music videos. Up until this point it had been believed that Paula had no issue with this - clearly we were all mistaken. She was the one who made the official announcement to the press this week.

Paula spoke to People.com and said, "We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time."

That is an innocent enough quote, however, several sources are claiming that she hinted at what may have caused the break up in additional quotes which, we must mention, cannot currently be found on
People.com, so take them with a pinch of salt. Paula commented on the 'butt-grabbing-incident' and said:
'Robin acting like that with me makes me think there were many more. It's a shame because when you have a kid, it's upsetting.'

If that quote is true, then WOW. It might lead to some questions about what else Paula caught Robin doing. Reading the quotes, it seems as if Paula hasn't exactly ruled out the possibility of them resolving their respective issues, and for the sake of their marriage we hope they can find a way. If not, it's another example that even the closest Hollywood couples can break up at any second.

One thing we're sure of is that somewhere in a Beverly Hills mansion, Kevin Hart is reading this article on his iPad, learning the news of Paula and Robin's break up and taking a swig of Merlot before unleashing a menacing evil laugh. Your time has finally come Kevin, make the most of it.
